Brendan T. Bowman, MD


Brendan T. Bowman, MD is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology at the University of Virginia and recently joined DaVita Kidney Care as Vice President of Medical Affairs. From 2015 to 2021, he served as medical director of UVA’s nonprofit outpatient dialysis program consisting of 12 clinics serving nearly 1,000 patients throughout central Virginia. He also served as director of the inpatient and ICU dialysis programs and co-course director of the School of Medicine’s renal physiology course.

Dr. Bowman’s research focuses on end stage kidney disease (ESKD) including dialysis-related quality improvement as well as the application of mobile health and machine learning to benefit patients with ESKD. He has authored several book chapters and articles on infection control, transitional dialysis care, and dialysis procedural complications. He has won numerous clinical and teaching awards while at UVA; both as a house officer and faculty member.

Brendan completed medical school at the University of Maryland followed by residency and fellowship at UVA where he served as Chief Fellow. Prior to medical school, Brendan worked in management consulting at PriceWaterhouseCoopers LLC, IBM Corp. and American Management Systems. Dr. Bowman and his family reside in Charlottesville, VA where they enjoy spending time outdoors in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
