Improving Kidney Care through Leadership Development and Education
Founded in 1990 as the Renal Physicians Association Research and Education Foundation (RPA/REF), the 501(c)(3) charitable foundation is now the RPA Dale Singer Leadership and Education Foundation in 2022 to honor the legacy
of longtime RPA Executive Director Dale Singer, who served RPA for 27 years.
The Dale Singer Leadership and Education Foundation (RPA Singer Foundation) focuses on leadership development opportunities and educational support for the nephrology practitioners, particularly those early in their careers, to strengthen the
future of the nephrology workforce. Supported activities provide a greater understanding of policy issues related to kidney care and what it means to be a leader in nephrology, as well as the workings of the RPA.
Goals of the foundation:
- Develop the diverse next generation of nephrology leaders.
- Educate nephrologists on policy issues related to kidney care.
- Provide mentoring and engagement opportunities.
- Provide access to RPA educational offerings.
- Equip nephrology practices to positively impact issues of health equity affecting kidney patients
Specific activities currently supported by the foundation:
- RPA Early Career Fellowships: This one-year opportunity is for nephrologists in practice 5 years or less. The Early Career Public Policy Fellows will develop a greater understanding of policy issues related to kidney care as well as the workings of
the RPA.
- RPA First Look Fellowship: This one-year program is designed to provide second- or third-year renal fellows to with insights into kidney policy and connect them with thought leaders in nephrology.
- Early Career Scholarships: These scholarships support early career nephrologists and renal fellows’ participation in the RPA Annual Meeting by offsetting costs of participating in the meeting.
Each of these activities requires support from the nephrology community. If you are interested in learning more about the foundation, please email
Mary Orgler,
