RPA First Look Fellowship for Renal Fellows

About the Fellowship: 

Experience the full benefits of membership via the RPA First Look Fellowship for second- or third-year renal fellows.* This program is designed to provide you with insights into the world of RPA, including kidney policy and connect you with thought leaders in nephrology.

 

Nephrologist Expectations:

Eligibility:

  • Must be a current RPA member (membership is free for renal fellows). 
  • Must be a second or third year renal fellow. Fellowship program must be based in the United States. 


Required attendance at:

  • RPA Billing and Coding one-day workshop immediately preceding RPA Annual Meeting (April 3, 2025; Las Vegas, NV)
  • RPA Annual Meeting (April 3-6; Las Vegas, NV)
  • RPA Capitol Hill Day (TBD)
  • RPA Policy, Advocacy Leadership (PAL) Forum (TBD)


Participate on at least one policy committee: Clinical Practice, Health Care Payment, Government Affairs, or Quality Safety and Accountability

Obtain Commitment from Program Director: Obtain commitment from Program Director allowing for time off to participate in the above meetings.**

Maintain RPA membership for duration of fellowship and for at least one year after the completion of fellowship. Current membership dues for early career physicians are $200/year. 

 

RPA Commitment 

  • Covers travel expenses associated for all required in person meetings listed above in accordance with RPA reimbursement policy.
  • Covers registration associated with attendance at required meetings above.
  • Assign a Board leader to serve as mentor for each nephrologist fellow.

* Not a renal fellow but looking to learn and get more involved in RPA? Applications for the RPA Leadership Development Program (formerly RPA Early Career Fellowship) will open in the fall for 2025. This one-year opportunity is designed for nephrologists in practice 5 years or less. Program participants will develop a greater understanding of policy issues related to kidney care as well as the workings of the RPA. In addition, they will attend RPA Board of Directors meetings, be assigned a mentor from the Board of Directors, have writing opportunities, and engage with at least one RPA committee.
