About Us
In the spring of 2006, the Renal Physicians Association and the Kidney & Urology Foundation of America, Inc., in cooperation with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services co-sponsored a survey of nephrology professionals and kidney patients to gather information about patient safety.
The surveys were conducted in conjunction with the ESRD Network of New England, the American Association of Kidney Patients, the American Nephrology Nurses Association, the Forum of End Stage Renal Disease Networks and the National Renal Administrators Association. Six primary areas of needed improvement were identified. Armed with this information, the ESRD Patient Safety Initiative has developed the Keeping Kidney Patients Safe web site to serve as a clearinghouse for patient safety best practices. Nephrology professionals can make a difference in patient safety by targeting these six adverse patient safety events for improvement and sharing best practices through this web site.
Keeping Kidney Patients Safe provides nephrology professionals with the tools they need to identify areas of potential improvement and implement systematic changes and training to ensure that opportunities to improve patient safety and reduce errors are achieved and maintained.
