Educational Objectives:
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants should be able to:
- Recognize symptoms and side effects related to dialysis and common therapeutic strategies to treat these maladies
- Analyze the variety of imaging tools typically used in nephrology care and review common electrocardiographic (ECG) findings in patients with kidney failure
- Apply vascular access care including hemodynamics, anatomy, physiology and long term management strategies for the
dialysis vascular access
- Summarize the preparation of the US healthcare system to deliver care to all patients with CKD
- Identify the major categories in diseases and clinical presentations that result in kidney failure
- Review the major comorbid conditions that impact ESRD care and complications in dialysis with a review of strategies to mitigate their impact on ESRD patients
- Describe the framework for being an effective nephrology consultant to other healthcare providers in both the inpatient and outpatient sites of care.
- Identify key laboratory markers to be included in the monthly review of ESRD patients
- Classify early mid and long term post transplant care renal allograft issues
- Apply therapeutic strategies and predict expected outcomes in the management of the pregnant dialysis patient
- Explain the recently adopted conditions for coverage for dialysis facilities
- Apply effective methods to talk to patients about their renal disease and optimally educate them on how to improve their own outcomes
