National Renal Coalition and of the Council of American Kidney Societies.
Professional
Development
RPA sponsors an annual meeting that focuses on current health care issues that
affect nephrology practice. During the meeting nephrologists and members of
the renal care team participate in interactive workshops designed to provide
attendees with the tools they need to be effective practitioners.
RPA conducts 2 workshops for renal fellows each year: one in conjunction with the RPA Annual Meeting and one in the Fall.
The objective of this workshop is to help fellows get
started in nephrology practice by covering the basics
of solo and group, multispecialty and single specialty,
and various settings including private practice, hospital
or academic institution. The workshop further educates
fellows on billing and coding procedures, finding jobs
and using professional associations like the RPA as resources.
RPA sponsors educational sessions for nurse practitioners and physician assistants to enable them to maximize their roles as critical members of collaborative practice teams in the nephrologists' pratices.
RPA's billing and coding seminars provide continuing education to nephrologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and practice managers. Topics covered during these seminars that are held throughout the country include:
- compliance
- office-based electronic medical systems
- business benchmarking
- use of mid-level practitioners
- collaborative practice models
- billing/coding
In addition, RPA plans and
presents seminars at meetings sponsored by the American
Society of Nephrology, the National Kidney Foundation,
and other regional nephrology organizations including
the ESRD networks. Visit the RPA Web site at www.renalmd.org
to view the nephrology calendar of events.
How is
RPA Organized?
RPA members vote by mail ballot for 15 individuals who serve rotating three-year
terms on the association's board of directors. RPA officers are elected by
the board.
Regional leaders are located
throughout the country and serve as resources to members
on state and regional issues. RPA members are encouraged
to volunteer to serve as leaders in their regions.
RPA members participate in
working committees that meet face to face twice a year
and via conference call several times a year to assess
needs and develop policies and position papers on quality
patient care, health care payment, workforce and scope
of practice issues. Members may sign up for committee
service by contacting RPA at rpa@renalmd.org or by going to http://www.renalmd.org/about/committees.cfm.
