The RPA Recognition Awards were created
to formally recognize and thank members and friends
of the Association for their contributions to nephrology
practice. Awards will be presented during the March 2008 RPA annual meeting. Please find below a listing of the awards.

Nephrology Service Award
2008 Recipient: John Sadler, MD
2007 Recipient: Emil Paganini, MD
2006 Recipient: William Haley, MD
2005 Recipient: Richard Hamburger, MD
This award will recognize an individual
RPA member who exemplifies RPA’s mission and goals
and has demonstrated local and/or national leadership
to that end.
Criteria for
Distinguished Nephrology Service Award
This RPA member shall:
- Be an RPA member for two
years or more;
- Be nominated by either another
RPA member, RPA committee member or a member of the
RPA Board of Directors;
- Be nominated on the basis of his/her
contribution for nephrology in the field of socioeconomics
or clinical practice;
- Have distinguished himself or herself
by accomplishments consistent with RPA’s goals
and objectives and/or RPA’s mission;
- Be an individual whose outstanding
performance with the Association has substantially
impacted the clinical care of patients with renal
disorders or has substantially contributed to the
practice of nephrology;
- Not be a current officer or member
of the Board of Directors nor hold a position with
RPA that regularly requires participation in Board
meetings at the time of nomination.

Exemplary Practice
Award
2008 Recipient: Nephrology Associates, PA
2007 Recipients: Arizona Kidney Disease and Hypertension Center, Phoenix, AZ and Scott&White Clinic, Temple, TX
2006 Recipient: Associates in Nephrology
2005 Recipient: Denver Nephrologists, PC
This award recognizes
a particular nephrology practice that is uniquely incorporating
and supporting suggested practices and strategic efforts
of the RPA while meeting the needs of its community.
Examples could include the development of novel chronic
kidney disease clinics or other practice enhancement
activities, creative contracting arrangements with health
plans which embrace the value of the nephrology practice
and the quality of care it generates, or using information
systems to document the implementation and outcomes
of clinical practice guidelines.
Criteria for
Exemplary Practice Award
The recognized Practice shall accomplish
and reflect one or more of the following attributes:
- Have at least 50% of eligible practice
members and employees as active RPA members; and
- · Have distinguished itself
by performing in an unusual or meritorious manner
in the furthering of RPA goals, objectives and mission;
or
- Have improved and/or strengthened
their goals, productivity and direction by incorporating
and being committed to RPA sponsored programs; or
- Have made substantial contributions
to the discipline of nephrology and have achieved
outstanding recognition in one or more domains of
the specialty including clinical care, education and
leadership; or
- Be nominated for its socioeconomic
contributions and successes to the field and not by
virtue of scientific achievement alone.

This award recognizes
a non-RPA member who has been active in supporting the
mission, vision and strategic goals of the organization.
This could be a legislator, statesperson, or other prominent
individual.
Criteria for
Special Recognition Award
This individual shall:
- Be nominated by a committee member
or a member of the RPA Board of Directors;
- Have served as an elected or appointed
government official at a state or federal level;
- Have provided outstanding public
service toward improving the delivery of renal health
care;
- Have distinguished himself or herself
through accomplishments which are consistent with
RPA goals, objectives and mission.
